About SATREPS

Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research. The program is a collaboration between Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which provides competitive research funds to research organizations in Japan, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which provides Official Development assistance (ODA) in the counterpart country. The aims of SATREPS are strengthening international cooperation, acquiring new knowledge and technology that lead to the resolution of global issues and the advance of science and technology, and enhancing capacity development. The principal organization on the Japan side is the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), while the counterpart on the Philippine side is the University of the Philippines Los Baños Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Water (UPLB-IdSCW).

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is an implementing agency of Japanese official development aid (ODA) for the purpose of supporting the socioeconomic development, recovery or economic stability of developing regions.

JICA has a headquarters in Tokyo, 17 domestic branch offices throughout Japan, and about hundred offices located worldwide to promote projects that meet local needs.

Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is one of Japan's core research institutions, responsible for the implementation of science and technology policy in the country. It was formed in 1996 from two government agencies, the Japan Information Center of Science and Technology and the Research Development Corporation of Japan.
