Laguna de Bay Sediment Group conducts river survey

The Laguna de Bay Sediment Group from Group 3: Resilience Assessment of the HyDEPP SATREPS project proceeded with the survey and sample collection after the site visits and LGU coordination at the Pagsanjan River and Sta. Maria River. This was conducted twice on two separate dates December 1, 2022 and December 20, 2022.

Arranged by Dr. Naito Kensuke (Group 3 member) from the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), a 3rd part contractor was hired, namely Yachiyo Engineering in Japan which in turn subcontracted to a Philippine-based counterpart, CEST, Inc. The team monitored the rain forecasts in the area through the assistance of UPLB members as the sample collection needed to be done right after a heavy rain. CEST, Inc. spent an entire day divided into two groups each designated into each of the two rivers. Survey in Pagsanjan River was conducted at the Balanac Bridge in Brgy. Maulawin, Pagsanjan, Laguna while that in Sta. Maria River was conducted in at a  small, unnamed bridge in Brgy. Bayanihan, Mabitac, Laguna.

The two teams then met at the HyDEPP SATREPS Office in UPLB to drop the sample for storing. These collected samples are then to be scheduled for analysis on one of the laboratories visited by the team. Findings from these analyses are expected to be fully utilized in lake modelling for the project.
