Group 1 members conduct e-Learning on hands-on training and Q&A for the data sharing tools

April 27, 2022

The members of Group 1: Data Collection and Sharing continued the e-learning on the DIAS data sharing/uploading /downloading tool. From the introduction and demonstration held last April 7, this second part now involved hands-on training as well as Q&A regarding its usage. Participants also provided comments and suggestions on how to improve the user interface of the website.

Facilitated by Dr. Katsunori Tamakawa and Dr. Ralph Allen Acierto (both from ICHARM), the training was attended by Dr. Patricia Sanchez (Project Manager), Ms. Catherine Gigantone (UPLB IdSC Water), Mr. Julius Galang (JICA Project Assistant), Dr. Roger Luyun (Study Leader) and members Mr. Dante Gideon K. Vergara, Mr. Francis F. Faderogao and Dr. Joan Cecilia Casila from the Philippine side, as well  Dr. Masaki Yasukawa (Study Leader) and Dr. Nishikawa (University of Tokyo) from Japan side.

Days before the actual training date, participants were asked to visit the DIAS link provided and register their own accounts to access the data sharing platform. Sample datasets were also shared which was used to simulate the uploading process so that the participants can start exploring the features of the platform.

During the actual training, participants were already prepared with their questions and comments regarding the uploading features of the website to which Dr. Tamakawa responded. One of the most observed points for improvement is on how to monitor duplication of uploads (i.e. two or more different users uploading the same datasets). Also mentioned was the uniformity of the formatting and unit of measure to  be indicated when inputting parameters such as location and elevation. Editing/updating of previously uploaded datasets was also asked.

Dr. Acierto consolidated the comments and suggestions and committed to the group that all will be considered in further improving the website. Since this was the first version of the platform, a lot of improvement suggestions was expected. Lastly, before ending the meeting, the hosts encouraged the group to further explore the website and its features and inform them of any problems and/or errors they may encounter or any new suggestions they come up with. They have yet to announce the schedule for the next meeting where they will present an improved second version of the platform.
