Group 1 Philippines meets for updates and plans for the year

January 24, 2023

Group 1: Data Collection and Sharing from the Philippine side also conducted a meeting amongst themselves last January 24, 2023 after the update and planning meeting with Japan counter part last January 10, 2023. It was initiated by Study Leader Dr. Roger Luyun, Jr., in order to share the learnings from the Japan training last November-December 2022 as well as to come up with detailed plans regarding the management of data server from Philippine side. The meeting was also attended by Group Members Dr. Cristino L. Tiburan, Jr., Dr. Joan Cecilia C. Casila, Mr, Francis F. Faderogao as well as Mr. Julius Galang (Project Assistant).

They continued from the main agenda last meeting with Japanese counterpart regarding DIAS database, connecting to other databases and data sharing policy. Specific persons were assigned to monitor particular types of data depending on his/her field of expertise. A single person assigned to check and approve every data before uploading is also being considered. Also, the team is looking into the possibility of having one person from the UPLB Information Technology Center (ITC) fully involved in the project (e.g. as Group 1 member). Still, the team have yet to wait for the arrival of the servers from Japan to start implementation of the plans discussed.

In the mean time, they intend to closely communicate with the partner agencies Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Atmoshperic, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) with regards to sharing and accessibility of each of their databases. Currently, streamflow data from DPWH have already been consolidated through the efforts of the UPLB Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Water (IdSCW). Plans for signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with each partner agency is in the works as well also initiated by UPLB IdSCW.

They also plan to closely collaborate with the other study groups in order to determine what specific data sets they need in order to proceed with their activities. The team expects to smoothly and effectively implement their plans on data management once the servers are delivered and installed in the HyDEPP SATREPS UPLB Office.
