Laguna de Bay Sediment Group talks about study interests with students

May 19, 2023

The Laguna de Bay Sediment Group held a meeting on May 10, 2023 to discuss topic interests with students who want to be involved in HyDEPP SATREPS. Members attended include Dr. Kensuke Naito, Dr. Patricia Ann J. Sanchez, Dr. Rubenito Lampayan, Dr. Aurelio Delos Reyes Jr., Dr. Roger Luyun Jr. and his two students, Engr. Dhoz Arizabal (MS student) and Engr. Glaiza Visitacion (PhD student). Present as well were Ms. Makiko Ohashi (JICA Project Coordinator) and Forester Rochelle Lantican (Project Assistant).

The meeting started with background on HyDEPP-SATREPS and the Laguna de Bay Sediment Group presented by Dr. Naito. Additionally, he gave detailed rationale about the three study topics under Laguna de Bay Sediment Group where students can select specific involvement in the project. This includes 1) Sediment Runoff from Catchments, 2) Sediment Transport in the Lake and 3) Remote Sensing.

After the presentation, Engr. Arizabal and Engr. Visitacion gave their thoughts about the topics and expressed their intent to discuss their specific field of interest with their advisors. Dr. Naito also emphasized that students have the opportunity to choose the topic they would like to be involved in.

Aside from study interests, the group talked about the financial considerations (e.g. laborer costs, analysis and material cost) and frequency of data collection. The members will continue coordinating the study plan and draft costing of the students.

The Laguna de Bay Sedimentation Group looks forward to work with students and conduct field surveys with them in June this year.
